Founded in 1991, Welvista is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides uninsured and underserved South Carolinians with access to essential health services, helping to reduce long-term healthcare costs from untreated conditions. As one of the nation’s largest mail-order pharmacies, Welvista partners with nine pharmaceutical companies to offer free brand-name and generic medications, with a formulary of over 170 drugs for chronic illnesses. By serving as a single access point for prescription assistance, Welvista bridges critical healthcare gaps, promoting hope and wellness throughout the state.
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides state funded assistance for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. To apply to be a WIC participant, you will need to contact your state or local agency to set up an appointment. Check out your state's website or call the toll free number. When you call to set up an appointment, someone will tell you the location nearest your home and what you need to bring with you.
